Its Time to Get a Hobby

It's Time to Get a Hobby

Hi Friends!

No one mentions how important having hobbies is as you get older. It is so easy to fall into a routine or fall into a cycle of work and then head home just to spend the rest of your afternoon scrolling on your phone. I am saying that I have been guilty of that myself and honestly hate it. One thing that I would say that popped this tired cycle bubble I was in was stepping away from that reality that I was in.

My friend wanted to do a challenge that would help us improve our lives, so she suggested we do the 75-day hard challenge. Sorry to disappoint, but I did not make it to the 75 days; I barely made it to 10 days. It's a bit of a challenging challenge, but I am not going to make excuses. I fully own up to the fact I could have kept going and pushed myself harder. Anyway, the point is that those first couple of days of the challenge were fun and hard. I made sure I was moving my body and going to the gym to take a pilates class or just going for a walk. Whether I was able to make it to the gym that day or not, I would do an at-home workout or just some yoga. It felt great, and I was on my phone a lot less. I saw the difference in my lifestyle, and it felt great. It makes me not want to live life through someone else's experience on a phone where none of it may even be real. It's been a month since I attempted the challenge, and I still feel avoidant of watching someone else live their lives rather than getting up and going out there to live myself.

Since then, I have made an effort to enjoy living my own life, and that includes going out there and getting a hobby, something that is your own that brings you joy and helps you enjoy life a little more. We need something outside of our usual routine that brings us life and a breath of fresh air. A hobby of mine I have loved but haven't been able to play much since graduating undergrad is tennis. Not being able to play tennis regularly has been torture, to say the least. I went from playing every day except Sundays to not at all. This is to say that it's important to not let entering adult life take over our lives and let go of the things that are important to us. Go out there and go on adventures. Try something new every week. Find a hobby you love that brings out the side of you that you haven't seen in a while. It's so important to get out of our comfort zones and make an effort to do something fun. Even if it's just once a week.

I will also be making an effort to do something new and fun. I am also on a mission to get out there and play tennis again. Wish me luck!

As always, remember you are loved and not alone!
